Seoul Ring aims to be completed in 2027, the world's tallest Ferris wheel, and Haneul Park
The city of Seoul, South Korea, is planning to build a new landmark: the world's tallest Ferris wheel, the Seoul Ring. On March 6, Mayor Oh Se-hoon announced to diplomats in South Korea that the giant Ferris wheel will be installed on a former landfill site called Sangamdong Haneul Park.
The project is expected to be privately funded and is targeted to be completed by 2027. The Seoul Ring will be over 250m tall, aiming to be taller than Ain Dubai in Dubai, the current world's tallest ring. Haneul Park is 98m above sea level, so if the Seoul Ring is completed on top of it, the view will be amazing, and on a clear day you'll be able to see all the way to North Korea.

Another plan under consideration is to connect Haneul Park to the Seoul Ring with a transparent elevator. A transparent elevator would be installed inside Haneul Park, allowing people to view the multi-layered piles of garbage as they ascend to the Seoul Ring. Another plan under consideration is to use waste heat from the incineration process at the nearby Sangam-dong Waste Incinerator to power the Seoul Ring.
The design may be different from the "Millennium Gate" that they planned to build.

The design of Seoul Ring may be subject to some changes from the ring shape previously announced by Seoul Metropolitan Government. Originally, the city had considered a ring-shaped structure with rotating cabins, but this was criticized as being similar to the Millennium Gate, which the government had previously attempted to build in Sangam-dong Peace Park as a national symbol but which was abandoned. A Seoul Metropolitan Government official said, "The final name for Seoul Ring may be decided through a public contest," and added, "We hope that Seoul Ring will become a global landmark once it is completed."
This Ferris wheel is scheduled to be completed by 2027, and is attracting attention for its eco-friendly features and the view from Haneul Park. If you are planning a trip to Seoul, be sure to check it out.
